Webcam on a GUIPlug
« on: 15 March 2012, 05:11:47 pm »

Hi everyone. I recently acquired a GUIPlug with the 4GB SD card and would like to recompile the kernel to enable webcam support but had a couple of questions:

- I wanted to be absolutely sure I got the right kernel from the right place. My plug says the kernel is: Linux sheeva 2.6.36.3 #5 PREEMPT Sat Jan 22 22:31:20 MST 2011 armv5tel. Could someone be kind enough to point me to the link for the correct kernel source?

- I also wanted to check that the instructions for setting up a webcam and recompiling the kernel available at http://plugcomputer.org/plugwiki/index.php/Webcams are the same for the GUIPlug. I assume so, just wanted to check before I dove in. :)

Thanks in advance,

Hi Astroturtle,

The GuiPlug is currently supplied with kernel 2.6.38.8 and the source is here: http://downloadsnewit.co.uk/kernel-v2.6.38.8/

I would recommend trying a 3.2 kernel from here http://www.xilka.com/sheeva/3/3.2/ for the best support for your webcam. The source is also supplied.

There is an installer script http://www.xilka.com/sheeva/  there but copying the sheeva-3.2.x-uimage and extracting out the sheeva-3.2.x-modules and a 'depmod -a' should also get it working.
