Guruplug standard microSD option ?
« on: 15 March 2010, 11:16:26 am »

From the datasheet the MicroSD card seems to be an internally fitted option on the Guruplug Standard.
Will this option be fitted on units supplied by NewIT or will it be an optional extra ?.
It also appears that it will be necessary to open the unit to fit or change the card ?

No , that picture refers to the Server Plus.
All rather confusing.

Yep I`m confused !!!!!
it says for the server :-
1x eSATA 2.0 port -3Gbps SATAII
2x USB 2.0
1x Internal MicroSD Socket for Optional Kernel System
1x External MicroSD Socket
RTC w/Battery
Than it says at the top 1 MicroSD slot .
And on the non server it doesn`t even talking about the MicroSD port at all.

From the information we have been given there is an internal MicroSD slot on both models, but only an External slot on the Plus version.

Is internal slot intended for end-user usage? Or, otherwise settled, does this imply that disassembling unit does not void warranty?

Warranty what’s that ?
It`s the first time I`ve had any form of computer and it`s not been upgraded ( tweaked ) voiding the warranty within the week.

Opening the unit does void the warranty, so i would say that it is not intended for end user usage.

You might believe that but the Sale of Goods Act would disagree.

How is that?

I have an Acer x3200, which was full of "Break this seal and you will go directly to hell" stickers.
Or Epson ( Epson printers ) saying use a compatible cartridge and that will void your warranty.

The warranty seal is there to protect both parties in the event of a problem with the device (be it a SheevaPlug, GuruPlug or any electrical equipment).
If the seal is intact it proves that no one, be it qualified or not has tampered with the internal components - therefore causing the problem.

An intact seal indicates that the unit has probably not been opened.
A broken seal DOES NOT prove prove that the act of opening the unit caused the problem.
A broken seal does not affect the customers right to fitness for purpose and freedom from latent defects. If a unit is returned with broken seals the seller cannot use this as an excuse to reject the claim, he must be able to prove that tampering actually caused the problem.

We are talking to GST about this now and will test as soon as we can when we have the products in, but our main priority will be to get them despatched to all the eager customers.
