Hi,
i use the internal memory of my SheevaPlug UBIFS and my rootfs (430 MB) explodes, when the LMS browses my 9000 pictures and mp3s.
I think, its the LMS-cache folder that generates too much data. I don't want to outsource the cache-folder on a stick, etc. because of the performance:
Anyone there with a tipp for me to get more free space (Debian 6 with only runs the LMS and the dependent packages)?
Or are there any other solutions?

Do you have space on an external SD card? I have an 8GB card with 6GB for the operating system and I've created a 2GB Linux swap partition in the rest.

No problems. It's a class 10 card and the alternative as you say is to run out of space. My applications are not very demanding I must admit - I use guiplug and was getting browser crashes.
