Install Redsleeve (centos for arm) on dreamplug
« on: 18 January 2015, 06:39:41 am »

Hi guys,

Has anybody tried to install redsleeve on dreamplug? I've followed the guide below but I get error when booting up. The problem is my dreamplug cannot find /dev/mmcblk1p3 (which is supposed to be mounted on /).

Thanks a bunch,

IIRC DreamPlug is different from the Sheeva and Guru, in that it's SD cards are on USB rather than MMC. Try /dev/sda or /dev/sdb. Failing that, head on over to the RedSleeve mailing list and ask there. :-)

From the guide....
Code: [Select]
setenv bootargs_root rw root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=10.10.1.3:/nfsroot/sheeva1,proto=tcp ip=dhcp
Clearly shows that the root device should be /dev/nfs not /dev/mmcblk1p3

The guys from RedSleeve are saying that we could actually dd their latest R-Pi image on a card and boot locally. We also have to add the proper kernel umiage, uinitrd and appropriate /lib/modules. And finally adjust the uboot paramaters and /etc/fstab.

I'm already running RedSleeve on a Rasbperry Pi it is awesome, just as you'd expect from Rehat/CentOS.

I had to make the following changes to the guide provided at http://wiki.redsleeve.org/index.php/KirkwoodPlug for network boot to work.

1. As Confusticated pointed out, the rootfs should be /dev/nfs and I edited this in the fstab file (in rootfs on NFS server)
# cat /nfsroot/dream/etc/fstab | grep nfs
/dev/nfs   /      nfs   defaults,noatime   1 1

2. Second, the network interface needs to be configured statically (dhcp didn't work for me) in ifcfg-eth0 again under rootfs
# cat /nfsroot/dream/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
USERCTL=no
IPADDR=10.1.1.222
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=10.1.1.254
DNS1=10.1.1.200

After booting from the network the dreamplug looks fine.
# uname -a
Linux redsleeve 2.6.39.4 #1 PREEMPT Fri Aug 5 19:04:03 MDT 2011 armv5tel armv5tel armv5tel GNU/Linux
# rpm -qa kernel
kernel-2.6.32-220.2.1.el6.kirkwood.armv5tel

One more thing, I put the contents of modules (and firmware) in the corresponding folders in lib (not var/lib as in the guide at http://wiki.redsleeve.org/index.php/KirkwoodPlug)
