Hi,
I purchased a Ralink 5370 USB wireless adaptor with a Model B Raspberry Pi.
I've installed firmware-ralink with apt-get .
When I use dmesg I can see the device:

[ 3667.789659] usb 1-1.3.1.4: Product: 802.11 n WLAN
[ 3667.789675] usb 1-1.3.1.4: Manufacturer: Ralink
[ 3667.789688] usb 1-1.3.1.4: SerialNumber: 1.0
[ 3668.101752] usb 1-1.3.1.4: reset high-speed USB device number 8 using dwc_otg
[ 3668.795264] usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2800usb
[email protected] /etc $

However when I run iwlist scan the shell hangs and sometimes crashes the raspberry pi and have to power cycle.
The wireless adapter is plugged into a powered usb hub as are the mouse and keyboard.
Wired ethernet networking works ok. (using midori to post this message)
Any help would be appreciated ?

Thanks.

Try upgrading to the latest version of Raspbian. You can download and install it on it's own or from the Noobs Menu system.

The wifi adapter you have should work without installing any extra software.

Hi,
The SD card I bought has NOOBS v1.3.0 Sep 27 2013. Isn't that the latest ?

Hi,
I've built another NOOBS v1.3.0 SD card and loaded Raspian. I haven't installed any other packages.
When the USB wireless adapter is connected iwlist scan still hangs and so does ifconfig.

Hi Mike

Does not sound right, can you email me [email protected] with your order number and we will get a replacement out to you on Monday, along with a returns envelope for what appears to be a faulty adapter.

The latest Noobs is v1.3.2   02/10/13

Is that the version you are using?

The Raspbian kernel should be v3.6.11+ #538
